I’m a 4-year-old, sorrel Quarter
horse. That means my coat is a brown-orange color. I'm the
youngest horse in my barn. There's 12 other horses in Rancher Bill’s
barn and we all live on the Jumping J Ranch.
My family has lived on the Jumping J Ranch for a long
time. My mom is a retired barrel racing horse that Rancher Bill’s
wife, Jan, used to ride. The two of them won lots of trophies. There’s
a whole wall in the tack room filled with trophies and pretty blue
ribbons.
And Grandpa Gray, the oldest horse here, was the first
horse that Rancher Bill brought to our barn. There are two ponies here
too. One named Midnight, because she’s black and one name Pinto Bean
because he’s has brown spots, just like pinto beans! The ponies belong
to Rancher Bill’s children, Tessie and Tom.
The ranch is beautiful. We have a big red barn that
keeps us warm and dry in the winter, and cool in the summer. We like
to spend most of our time outside though. Sometimes we just exercise
with our trainers around the paddock. The best days are spent in the
cool green pastures at the base of the mountains.
My cousin, Spanky, also lives here at Jumping J. He’s
a buckskin. His coat is creamy tan with a jet black mane and tail.
Spanky and I have a great time together trotting around the pasture
and having contests to see who can run the fastest.
And, we both LOVE to eat. Tessie and Tom do most of
the feeding. We’re fed two times a day and we get crunchy oats with
molasses and tasty alfalfa hay. But when Tessie wants to treat us
special, we get scrumptious horse treats. I really like the crunchy
